Natural Wood Oils (varnish)

We used completely natural wood oil on exposed wood such as the floors. Osmo oil is a market leading product in it’s own right, as well as eco & non toxic. It’s made from plant oils, including linseed & thistle, that soak into the wood. It works with the wood, so it never cracks or peels, rather than trying to seal it like some varnishes that leave the wood as if covered in a plastic coating.

Natural Wood Finish

Product Osmo Polyx Oil
Cost £1.20 per square metre per coat
£22 for a 0.75 litre tin
Supplier Humberside Decorative Supplies Ltd

The price for a tin seems incredibly expensive, but it’s applied really thinly and goes a very long way. We previously used this product on a beech kitchen worktop, and after a couple of years of use it still looked fabulous.

We sanded the original floorboards and applied 2 or 3 coats of Osmo Oil, which enhances the natural qualities of the wood.
